I have a long and boring plane flight on sunday. I'm looking for reccomendations on reading material to keep me entertained. I find comics tend to be better than books on long flights cause its short bites of different stuff rather than just one long pull.

anyways. preference wise I tend to lean towards garth ennis's stuff.. humorously twisted, violent, and profane is always entertaining. I've read most of his stuff.

I like Brian Bendis too. his powers stuff more than some of the more main marvel things alhough in general I find that ok too.

I tend to prefer more realistic, colorful art as opposed to anything too highly stylized but of course that can be hugely subjective.
case in point, I didn't like the art for 30 days of night.

the drawing for League of extrordinary gentleman was ok, but From Hell was pretty excerable.
my opinions. I don't want to get into a flame war over it.

I plan to hit the shop one more time on saturday before I hop on the plane sunday afternoon. I probably already have enough material but I'm stuck on a hotel room for nearly a week and that is dull stuff.

thanks for any responses.

The art to 30 Days of Night IS terrible. I don't consider it stylization, I consider Ben Templesmith a horrible artist.

I have/reccomend Marvel Zombies, it's really fun. I also enjoyed Marvel Civil War, it's an amazing read. Also anything from Frank Miler. Also if there are some comics series that started in the 70s or so and you want to get caught up quickly and cheaply you should check out Essentials, I have Essential X-men Vol. 1 and 2 and it's seriously like 30 years of comics in two books, together they cost around 25$.

If you like zombies you should check out The Walking Dead, it's neat.

Hope I helped, sorry if it's nothing at all what you are into.

If you like Ennis, I would recommend The Boys Vol 1. and Vol 2.

If you like Bendis, pick up Torso, a realistically drawn crime story about a serial killer.

If you want something like Ennis, Wanted or Superman: Red Son are great.

If you haven't read anything by BKV, Ex Machina and Y the Last Man.

If you liked the pilot episode of Heroes, Demo.

If you just want to read something wrong, Black Kiss.

The best Batman Story ever, Hush.

The best Two Face Story, Face The Face.

The best Joker Story, Killing Joke.

If you are reading Batman R.I.P., Batman in the Fifties.

If you want to see next year's blockbuster in print, Watchmen (http://watchmenmovie.warnerbros.com/).

That should get you started.

I'll try. aparently they're pretty grumpy about photographs so I have to be sneaky and have my friend spot while I snap pics.

Animal Man v1-3. best read ever. You will hug your cat when you are done.

I'm personally a huge Batman fan (obviously) and have been reading 'Batman and the Outsiders'. I think that's a really good book that maybe you'd be interested in. The straight 'Batman' series is pretty good too. The whole R.I.P. thing has me going right now. I really like Grant Morrison. Also, if you like the Joker I could recommend a few graphic novels to you.

Also, no one mentioned 'Kick Ass' written by Mark Millar. It only has three issues out so far but it's really violent and really fun to read! Someone already mentioned 'Wanted' but I'll second that cause you haven't mentioned reading it.

Hope that helps a little bit!

i have wanted, but I haven't read it yet. I still have some left I haven't finished from the trip. I decided to re-read preacher and watchmen again.
I've read some joker stuff but nothing newer than 3 or 4 years ago.
I picked up batman: hush, and a couple others which I also haven't gotten to yet.
I spent a ridiculous amount of money on comics this month. cheap entertainment they aren't.
but nothing really compares to them either.

I'll check out kick ass next time I  head over to the atomic comics in mesa.

I know exactly what you mean. If you get behind even a little bit, you end up spending a fortune! haha.

I own these Joker stories: The Killing Joke, The Man Who Laughs, Joker's Last Laugh, Greatest Stories Ever Told.
I am planning on buying more, but all of these are great!

I am not sure if you are aware of these stories or not ...Batman R.I.P. which leaves a lot to the imagination and is very intriguing, also The Resurrection of Ra's Al Ghul. This story line line is going to add a lot of fodder to the Batman mythos! Not only Ra's and Talia...................BUT.............The Son Of Batman!!!!! Check it out!

As much as I love Batman,  Reading RIP without reading Batman and Son, The Black Glove or The Resurrection would be like reading Final Crisis without having read Crisis on Infinite Earths or Infinite Crisis.  You could piece together a story, but it is a really confusing one.  I kind of felt like a drugged out Bruce Wayne roaming the streets homeless while reading it.  There are much more accessible stories about Batman.  The Paul Dini single issue stories are collected in the Batman: Detective TP.

I always suggest Batman:Venom as a good stand alone read. it's Denny O'Neil's introduction of the drug that would later create BANE and involves Bruce going on a mad steroid bender and locking himself in the Batcave for a month to detox. This is an intense story and a must for all DC fans.
