Just tried to place a reorder for Skaar #1 to no avail. It appears to be sold out at the distributor almost 3 weeks before hitting the stands. World War Hulk 5 continues to move briskly for me at 8.99 ea including shipping.
The Skaar series could essentially be a vehicle to produce more of the ever popular Planet Hulk stories.

I should have included in my post above a denotation that WWHulk 5 is Skaar's first appearance.

Mark,

I think you are being a little sensational.  Diamond often allows items to go to backorder when they waiting to determine if they have enough for shortages and damages the week of the shipment.  I've also seen them put an item in that category when they are setting their final numbers.  Try back in a week or so.  There will be some available I'm sure.

On a side note, when are you opening your store?

If I was sensational, I didn't mean to be.  I was led to believe there's not much chance they'll be available.  I'll probably pick some up on the secondary market.
I've pretty much decided to focus on mail order, and that's what I'm spending my energies on now.

Mark,

I'll check with David at Marvel.  I would think if it is already sold out at Diamond that they would want to make the announcement to create buzz ahead of the release and announce a second printing that would be available a week or two after the release.

I think that you are smart to play to your strengths.  Do you have a comic coming out yourself.  I thought I read that somewhere.

Shawn

From my email to David Gabriel, Marvel VP of Sales:

...he had seen Skaar Son of Hulk #1 go to local backorder.  I was able to verify it, but shrugged it off to post FOC print run setting.  Is Skaar Son of Hulk #1 sold out at the distributor or is this a Diamond reorder annamoly?

His reply:

should only be an anomaly...we set the print run yesterday with a healthy #1 overprint (with national media coverage anticipation of showing the Julie Bell cover in USA Today to coincide with the Hulk movie release) check back mid week next week.

Thanks for the info.  Skaar does seem to be doing well early on, doesn't it?
I self-pubished a few comics.  I was trying to get a few more out, but it's not going well at the moment...

I know at least one of the Atomic locations is sold out of the first issue.

Thanks for condescending to me, Spaz. I didn't realize they transferred comics from one store to another.

Mark,

It wasn't a dig on you.  I don't think that there is inventory leveling.  YMMV.
