07/05/2007 10:51 PM Alert

I'd like to give a challenge to the users of this message board. For one week, I'd like to see if everyone can be open to each others ideas, opinions and comments. Have a discussion, and maybe get each other to look at one another's reading choices and get someone into something new.

If you're a customer of Atomic, you already know our goal is to promote the industry in a positive light and encourage people to read things they will enjoy. If you walk into the Metro Center store you can expect John to be there and tell you how much he loves Green Arrow, and his excitement is infectous because it is geniuine. And he may just have you leaving the store with a new issue in your hands because he wants you to enjoy what he feels is a good book, not to make a sale, but because he's interested in seeing you leave happy. That's the Atomic way.

It's what makes us the best stores in the country and why we continue to grow, adding a 5th store in October at the new San Tan mall. And it's why people can come into our stores and feel welcome. It's a freindly place that you enjoy going to, and our website should be that way too.

I'm not saying by any means you are not allowed to say whatever you want here, just try to remember that someone somewhere loves what you think is terrible, and vice versa. Try to keep an open mind to thier opinion and maybe instead of coming up with a clever insult, you ask them why it is they enjoy Amazons Attack or Thunderbolts and see if you're missing out on something great.

It's a comic community. Try to treat your neighbors with some respect and we may see this thing grow in the same way our the positive experience of our stores has taken us to where we are today.

Thanks for reading.

I read everything on the wall and rarely don't like something that is from the big 2. I may lambast their shipping schedules but for every shot I take at one there is an equal shot and the parrallel company(AS Batman and Ult Wolvie Hulk I am talking to you guys). I have been converted on many books that I thought I did not like. Anytime there is a book I really don't like I usually will try again when the writer changes to see if it was just that persons take on the character. I love my comics and am always willing to give something a chance, Heck, the things I dig the most right now (due to lack of Green Arrow) are Highwaymen and Gamekeeper. I think that these are both books that woudl have been missed on the shelf by many if I had not shown them. Everyone should give everyone a shot . Just because I am a citizen of the DC Nation does not mean that I don't drive through Marville all the time.

I'm just saying keep an open mind, and keep it civil. And if you're an employee of Atomic, you know we have an unwritten rule about negative talk about product, be it lateness on shipping or simply not liking something. Atomic is about promoting the industry to everyone, and to do that you need to make people feel comfortable and not worried about looking like thier buying choice is somehow wrong. You don't have to like Marville, but don't make someone else feel bad for doing so.

If your an employee posting on here, even with a non-obvious "atomic____" screen name, the rules apply. It's pretty easy to tell who everyone is on here, so act with the same respect you do in the store.

Thanks.

I like that challenge - I think this forum could expand into a nice community with time.

Speaking of that, everybody should be reading The Spirit (old school plus very accessible writing and art in homage to Will Eisner), Astonishing X-Men (decent to good writing with some surprising humor along with nice art. It was recommended to me by two Atomic employees at separate times for someone who had been out of comics for roughly 15 years - knowledge of X-history not necessary) and Criminal (the art can be so-so, but the writing is top notch for a crime story!)

A little late in responding. I am a new member to this site. John at Atomic Metro turned me on to All-Star Superman after hyping each new issue to deaf ears. I finally caved with issue #10 because the cover intrigued me. I am now a big fan and tell everyone standing around the new comic wall talking about what we like and tell them to buy it!!!

All Superman is one of the best love letters to the silver age of comics I have ever read. I can't think of a better book that reads well in both floppy and trade format. It makes me long for the days of yore and inspires me to write more fun and less gritty.

Has anyone read The Spirit lately? With Mark Evanier and Sergio Aragones writing it these last four or five issues, it is doing what I thought was neigh impossible. It is actually improving story-wise with each new issue. Being a completist I was just kind of going through the motions when an issue came out. Read it, yawn, file it. NOW!!! I can hardly wait for each new issue!! It is a joy to read. It makes me kinda feel like the 12 year old me did when a new issue of his favorite came out. Check it out. You shouldn't be disappointed.

Aragone's and Evanier have blown Cooke out of the water with their understanding of the character. I love Darwyn Cooke but man oh man is Aragones rockin the Spirit. his Bat Lash series was a hoot too.
