Ok so I know we have all been doing themes for the art club in mesa which have been very cool and fun. Especialy this weeks little project :D.

But I was thinking of a project that we could all do when we are at the meeting and thats when I came up with Art jams. If you dont know what an Art Jam is here you go.

Art Jam - Is basicly when a group of artists are told to draw the same character in a set amount of time but the artists are free to choose style, pose, theme of the piece. They can be specific or they can be a set universe in which the artists can draw any character from said uni.

So the idea is to be given an advanced notice in case some one in the group isnt familar with the universe or character to have a chance at looking them up. And since we are in a comic store we might be able to have a quick glance at some of the comic art for the procrastinators(sp?)

I thought about what would everyone in the club know and possibly like in one way or another. SO I came up with a Spawn Art Jam which I would assume everyone would know of the character.

And I figure for the people who show up to the meetings regularly we could take turns in the art jam so we could have a round robin of Jams. I'm not saying we do this every meeting but it would def give us some thing fun to do maybe 2 times a month or weekly if people really enjoy it.

Let me know what you guys think ?

Hell we might even be able to run a full blown contest in the future.:w00t:

I can see that would broaden some horizons in art and comics. Spawn was one of the first comic characters i learned to draw.

I wouldnt be able to draw spawn off the top of my head, because Im not very familiar with the character. I could probably be like "hey thats spawn!" if I saw him...but I dunno. Ill have to look him up.

Anyways, I think it sounds like a decent idea. It would definitely help me with learning how to draw specific characters. I can never really think of any when Im at home. lol! So I think it sounds worth a shot :)

Yea the idea of a art jam is to really get your self out of the protective shelll some artists have, and really just test the water. Its also a great way to really test your style to see how it would look on different characters and universes.

And if we do decide to keep it going which I hope we do becuase it is fun. When we take are turns you have to give at least a weeks notice so people can research the character to at least know he/she looks like. I also think I have a few spawn comics somewhere in the apt, unless they got lost in the move and if I find them I'll bring em over.

I confess to not being that familiar with spawn as well. When you say a set amount of time, how long are we talking about? 10min, 30min, 5min? Still, I'm game for it.

The art jam will start when everyone shows up and then will end 15 mins before the end of the club meeting that way everyone has enough time to draw a nice/finished drawing of spawn. Which is why we wouldnt have it every meeting becuase people might get burned out.

The idea of an art jam is to learn new ways to create costumes and really broaden everyones horizons, like for me I have never drawn spawn but I do know what he looks like I just never gave him that much thought in my drawings.

Thats also why we take turns so we can all get used to drawing things on the fly and really test each others style.

yep, we should scan and post our pics here. I'll do it in a few days, I want to ink it first. In an ArtJam, are we trying to get it finished by the end of the day?

Yea in a artjam the goal is to have a complete drawing by the end of the session. I'll try and post my spawn pic but I dont think my scanner will pick up the pencil but I'll give it a shot.

after some color.

I hate the drapery of the cape on his right arm/side. I think the colors came out well though.
