No, I havent ever seen *those* lakes. need I remind you we are in Arizona?
I have seen lakes with beaches, but I think that particular drawing looks like a lake-beach as opposed to an ocean-beach. There is a difference and the lack of waves and the type of background imply more of a lake.
Thats all Im saying.

Monday's Theme!
Don't forget to draw the "Zeus on Springer" theme that Mo came up with last week. He is giving a soda to whoever does the best picture! yaaay! ((or, Im sure he'd buy you a water if your concious of your figure ;p))
Also, you guys should decide whether or not you'll be doing the Spawn theme as well this monday or if you want to hold it off till next. |

I see what you mean. And we were really going for more of a sandy, ocean beach, summer kind of theme too. I'll have to make some adjustments.

well your drawing dose have palm trees which sugests an ocean, as for the water with no high waves it could just be low tide, or a simple before the storm. As the ocean dies down becuase the storms pull the water to the eye of the storm and then sends it rushing back which might be why the creature is leaving the waters to use the storm as cover.
The possiblities are endless really :D |

| Sorry about the ocean/lake beach slam. Not an intentional dis. I grew up on the California coast. Traveled all over the country. Saw many beaches and lakes. I have even seen beaches in Colorado. Haven't been to any Arizona lakes. Sorry for my ignorance on state lakes. My Bad!! |

| The first beach I can remember was in Germany for me....always good to be a army brat :P ...I didn't take what you said as a dis to the guys art (nor would I defend it since its not mine) I just looked at what you said as a crit, but then all of the people who crit my work are industry leaders so I'm so used to getting crit hard that I dont really see it as mean just a list of what you did wrong. |

| I really should not criticize anyones art because I am still at the (I think) first grade level of stick figures. I just never evolved! But I do go by the old adage of..............I don't know art, butI know what I like! Have a nice night. Bed time. Talk to you guys later. :-) |

So I did some work on the beach scene. The color helps to sell that it's an ocean beach. I'm not really happy with how I rendered the creature, esp. the highlights. The ocean needs work...

I colored it all in photoshop. I did a search on Flickr for ocean beach pics that I could use as reference color (like how the water turns more green as it nears the sand). If you guys want, I could go into more detail how I did it, or any of my other theme pics.
I need to figure out a better way to blend colors in photoshop painting though. I'm sure there is some option, probably in the brushes, I just haven't found it yet ^_^;; I used photoshop 7 for years and finally made the big upgrade to CS3 last year, but I sat on it until, well, I did that flyer for the club a few months ago. There is so much I still need to figure out.
BTW, you guys need to post your stuff here too if you get the chance.

So this is a picture that I had been working on as of late. I liked the idea much better than how it turned out -_-;;;
Last week the theme was more or less "fairies". Though I dont think anyone really drew any fairies but me...and even when I did it was outside of club LOL
But at any rate I spent a LOOOONGGGGG time on this so appreciate! |
