As a long time Marvel Universe fan I see a somewhat disturbing trend. During the late 1980's-early 1990's I felt Marvel went into too many directions. Massive storylines that seemed to cross over to every title as a tie in. You would read a great issue of say the Avengers, then had to pick up 4 other titles to see how the story line ended. The next issue of the Avengers would then pick up like nothing happened. Of course there would be an editor's note to see all the other tie in issues.
That fact alone really turned me off from Marvel for about 10 years. It all seemed like a cheap ploy to selll more comics. Which I realize IS there business, but I remember feeling so cheated being left hanging on a stroyline unless I went out and bought all those extra tie ins.
I see the same thing happening all over again. Loved the Civil War series, Frontline, and the Initiative is starting out o.k. But with the death of Captain America, the addition of the Mighty Avengers, other teams, and Marvel's promise of a whole new Marvel universe is giving me a bad feeling of deja vu. How many of you remember that colossal failure of the New Universe?

| No... when they have four foil-embossed covers with two different print runs with the words "FIRST COLLECTOR'S ITEM ISSUE!" emblazoned just above a hologram of Wolverine on the new X-Men event next summer.... THEN you can say Marvel wants comics to go away. For now, we're safe. |

I remember New Universe... Justice, D.P.7 and Starbrand!
But if Marvel can sustain the Ultimate universe, Max and Icon, I don't see why fans wouldn't give a new universe a chance. That said, I'm sticking with the 616 universe because it's what I grew up with. I don't care for canon being tossed out the window... |

| Doesnt sound to bad...You just have to watch out to see what tie in goes to what. Where it leads and dont buy all 4 diffrent covers. They dont go up a dollar in value for 3 months. |

Are you reading the NEW New Universe with our lord and savior Warren Ellis and Salvador Larocca? Great story so far.
As for too many tie-ins and big storylines....hey they gotta make money to stay alive and what better way than to make you buy more issues of awesomeness! Im a graphic novel man myself so i can wait....sometimes.
