It's not the symbiotic black costume, Stephanie. That one is still bonded to Gargan (the current Venom). This is just a fabric facsimile of the old one.

I think it's sweet how he's going all renegade and just wanting to beat people's faces in. It's like they are cupcakes and he has an ferocious sweet tooth. There's nothing like old ladies getting shot to unleash some inner rage issues in a nerd.

While I really like the black costume, it may just be that it is a brief change to get more readers because of the movie coming out in the summer. However, if this change to the black suit were to provide for some interesting plot twists, then it would be really worth it. So far, outside of Amazing #539, spider-man hasn't been acting different at all, like in New Avengers, he is pretty much the same as he was before in the red and blue duds. His personality in this issue, however, does seem different than in the past, but it has only been one issue, so i haven't made my mind up yet.

In all honesty i believe that the whole black costume thing is just a way for Marvel to grab people's interest and milk more money out of us. Marvel will always end up changing Spidey's costume because that's what they do every few years, it happened twice within this last year. I'm not saying that it's a bad pattern, I'm just saying that I'm personally getting tired of Spider-Man using the same gimmick over and over.

Is there an actual reason for switching to the black costume? "I'm mad and red and blue doesn't convey my mood well enough"? I don't have a problem with the costume switch if there's a reason, but Pete's reasoning might as well have been, "There's a movie coming out in a few months so I'm going to change my clothes to hype it." That would have been more honest and made as much sense.

That said, what's the point of bringing Storm and Black Panther onto the FF when Reed and Sue will obviously have to be back by July for the FF2 movie.

Marvel putting Pete back in black doesn't make any sense for the character. "Oh I'm angsty I wear black, go to Hot Topic, and cut myself." Not MY SPIDER-MAN! That being said, it is my favorite Spider-man costume, but it's been co-opted by Venom. You know the guy that tries to kill Spidey all the time? Why would he put on a costume that represents his descent into darkness as well as the evils that Venom has done. The symbiote represents a failure in character for Peter.

This choice of suit only makes sense in regards to marketing for Marvel. Oh, Spider-man 3 is coming out... he's going to be in black there so... we can draw more readers into the comic by creating a continuity between the two! I hate you Marvel.

Agreed.

But seriously. I really don't care what Spiderman does. He has just become a really unlikable character for me as of late. Its always "Marry jane is going to die" or "Aunt May" or "I'm going to change my little outfit" so yeah...

The coolest thing he has ever done is take off his mask and give his villians the big "fuck you" but we all know how that story ends.

Reading Spiderman hurts my head sometimes...

No, the black outfit represents that smoking hot redhead Julia Carpenter - who had the outfit before Spider-Man or Venom. Man, Force Works rocked...

I love the black suit. I'm not reading ASM, so I don't really care about the reasoning behind it. However, I'm not delusional enough to believe that Marvel will stick with the righteously cool suit permanently. I'll just enjoy it while it lasts.

Spider-man is finally interesting. As long as he keeps the attitude. Although, he really needs a cowl with pointy ears to live up to the black costume and attitude. ;)

The reasoning behind him switching to the black costume is that costume not only represents his mind set, but also conveys to the villains "i'm not playing around anymore." when he had that costume originally he was not holding his punches and the villains really had a reason to be afraid of him. The costume change is to warn people that he is in no mood to dick around anymore, and he means business.
