So, this past Monday's theme drawing was: Kitty in a Pot.
Why not expand this and see if you guys can do something a little bit larger? I.e: A comic, a colored image, a collage? Submit pictures here or next monday!

What do you guys think? Can ya handle that? ;)

I'm always in. I've got some half-finished comic pages floating around. I think I'll finish one or two up and bring 'em in.

I loved the random little Kitty in a pot exercise. How did that even come up? Think of another one for next week.

I was just drawing in my sketchbook and made a mistake but instead of reaching for an eraser I went for the undo key. ^_^; -too much computer-

Oh hey, for those looking for frames to mount your art for Atomic's wall, "Jerry's Artarama" (Rural rd just south of the 60 freeway) has a bunch of frames on sale. A 10X15in metal frame for $5 isn't bad. They had some wood frames for just a few bucks more.

Whoa, way to take it to the next level! That's cool.

The face is excellent, I especially love the hair. I suck at long hair. You'll have to tell me how you do it. It's a strong graphic image. I love that you did the lettering yourself. You chose a really hard pose. That might be something to get reference for, maybe take a picture of someone sitting in laundry basket?

There are a few things I wanted to point out as a critique so I put your pic in photoshop and tweaked it. I hope you don't mind.

Photobucket

First I defined the pot a bit more to give her something more solid to sit in. I rounded it with some darker edges. I gave it a thicker top edge too.

She had a lock of hair that went over her knee, I erased it to help the depth and while I was at it, I squared off the top of her knees.

I thought that the depth could be helped by making her head a bit smaller, and feet a bit larger. I outlined the Black Cat and made a copy in a new layer. I used the distort function. It wasn't perfect. I had to go back and select just her head and distort it in the opposite way a bit. This led to an ugly broken line along her hair and chest. I couldn't fix the hair that well :( I had to do some painting to put her back in the pot. That's when I painted her thigh in and a bit of her waist. I had to separate her left hand and move that a bit too. Her lower legs look too long now, but I decided not to correct that.

Finally, I thought that the lower left corner seemed empty so I enlarged the "C" and moved it to the left a bit.

wow! You did quite a bit! I do like the depth more, but I think her legs look kinda silly now hmmm...some kinda medium is needed me thinks...I like what you did with the C and the pot :)

thanks!

Anything for the Club!

Oh, I just thought of a different way. The pot could be drawn nearly straight on. Actually that would be the easier way to do it...naturally I must see how it looks.

Photobucket

I clipped the legs out and redrew the pot, making it a bit larger too. I enlarged the legs a bit, and moved the left hand over. Finally I shrunk the head a tiny bit.

The key really is just the pot. Actually the key is the face and you nailed that. You've got all the body parts painted well, it's the pot that ties them all together.

Again, Nice Job.:)

Kinda late in the week, however:

for those who were not there on Monday! This week's theme was Elemental Hero. Create a hero from an element (i.e. water, fire, earth, air, etc)
Share your creations if you are able!

The top B&W sketch is the wind elemental I drew at club. I stuck it in PS and messed around over the weekend to get the bottom picture.

The hands are too stiff, and I hate the hair, too blue and too much like a solid piece. I was going to put some leaves blowing around but got sidetracked. That's one of the good and bad things about Digital art--you can tweak it forever.

Ooh! Thats really, very, pretty! I do agree about the hands, they are a bit stiff. Perhaps they should have been holding the dress or something? But that hair i think works well for the piece. Since it is an Air elemental, it kinda looks like a sky blowing out behind her. <3 I also really like the dress and the little bit of transparency in it. nice touch. The ribbons are also really sweet. :3 I think its lovely.

Hey thanks Dani. I knew I wanted to show her feet so one of the first things I did was just paint a simple nude body on a new layer to keep my proportions working below all that fabric. When I was tweaking with the layer options, I noticed how nice that transparent effect was and I decided to keep it. 75% of that painting is just playing around with layer options and adjustments.

Now, onto last week, which you weren't here for. No one else took your "All Hail Dani" theme seriously, can you imagine? I was willing to give it a shot, though your profile pic didn't give me much to go on (^_^)

horse sketch

I decided I would put your pic on a banner, to inspire the troops ;) I wanted to draw a guy on horseback so I brought some animal drawing reference to the club.

All Hail Dani, painting

It's starting to become a habit with me to take the week's theme drawing into photoshop on Saturday evenings. Is it sad that my wacom has become my weekend companion? ^_^;; Anyway I'm still working working on this one but I'm happy with the way it's turning out. Your pic on the banner came out better than I expected. It's mostly just a pure painting, I only have like 4 or 5 layers. Last week's wind elemental pic had about 20 layers.

Whee! ^-^ I like it! :D

Im generally pretty lazy when it comes to layers I guess. HAHA! I generally do one for clothes, another for skin, another for hair, and another for eyes/make-up/mouth ya know? Something along those lines. haha

The banner turned out really nice actually! It looks like a real banner! :D

I messed around with the wind elemental some more. I repainted the arms and part of the dress. Good idea to have her holding it. I repainted her face, tweaked the color and added some wispy things to show the wind. If I were to actually finish this, I would take a look at some wedding dress pics for reference I think. But I'm satisfied as it is, unfinished and all.

Wow, you guys are really talented! I love the Black Cat illustration and the wind elemental is really beautiful. I love her hair, and I kinda like the dress the way it is. I can tell you did a lot of work on the drapery. I also like the color palette. I think it's a really pretty piece. Does she have a name, or do you just call her wind elemental?

Thanks Dani. Yeah I think it's a lot better too.

Lumiya, you should come down to the club if you have the chance.

Here's my drawing this of this week's theme, the beach. I just slapped some tone on it to start. I'll color it later.

I like your beach/sea creature too. I really want to come to a meeting, but you guys are so far away! My sister is an artist, I'm awful, but I really love art. We'll have to take a road trip sometime!

Pretty cool James! I like the shadow-reflections in the water of the monster thing. :)

But I do have to say, it kinda looks more like a lake...hmm....

But either way I like it :)
