Re: Civil War #7
It occurred to me that this story probably won't be half as bad in trade. If we didn't have two months between every 20 pages to reflect on how awfully out of character every one was portrayed, I think it would be more acceptable to see Reed Richards and Tony Stark teaming up with a guy who once slaughtered a church full of nuns and trying to kill their best friends.

Re: Civil War #7
Ah come on. It was a good book. A bit too much smashed into 7 issue, but good.

Re: Civil War #7
Issues 5-7 were big piles of nothing with perhaps the most anti-climatic ending of any "event" comic ever. It may be the first crossover miniseries where you reading the actual miniseries was superfluous. Half of what happened in the later issues was just recaps and retellings of stuff from tie ins, like joining Spider-Man and Iron Man's argument "already in progress" in issue 5. You really needed to read Amazing to know what was going on there.

Issue 4 was the turning point where things went from "not so bad" to "completely ludicrous," as I have well chronicled elsewhere.  Millar's complete mis-characterization of long-established icons continued right up to the bitter end when the whole thing comes to a screeching halt with Cap just giving up when a fight for freedom is on the line.  That's as out of character as... well, having Tony Stark and Reed Richards touting superhero concentration camps.

I can see how this story might have been good if it were done in Invincible or some other book where we have similar characters but without decades of continuity that Millar had to choose to ignore.

Now that you've gotten my dander up, I may just have to do a full recap of issue 7 and point out all the reasons it was bad.  In the meantime, for another take, check out Chris Sims's Civil War in 30 Seconds recap.

Re: Civil War #7
That Civil War in 30 seconds recap was funny but it seems so one side in cap's favor.  too bad there isn't one that has a view point for all sides.
But yeah, civil war #7 wasnt all that cracked up but honestly its not even over with the new Initiative series coming out.  I think they gave Millar an awesome idea but i think he felt rushed...it seems like he always does that in his books.  *shrugs*  ah well, see you in Initative suckas!!   Who's going to be the super-team for Arizona?!

Re: Civil War #7

I'm with Jake on this one.  Hey Cap! About face soldier!  Apparently war has never affected innocents ever before.  God forbid your quest for the personal freedoms that should be an inallienable right for all people in this country affect anybody else.

Oh well.  You all know how I feel about Mark Millar and his endings.  Good idea.  Great art.  Poor execution.

Also, who has the most to lose by going public?  Spider-man.  What does he do? Go public.  What happens?  His aunt gets shot.  Who didn't see that coming?  Seriously, dubya tee ef mates?  Don't get me started on the black costume, which happened (past tense) to be my favorite costume.  Sooo... let me get this straight, since he went rogue (although he's already registered) he decided that he should take on his former costume and current costume of one of his greatest enemies?  Didn't this turn out poorly for you last time?  Is this 'stealth spidey,' 'angst spidey,' or is it 'Spider-man 3-is-coming-out-and-we-need-to-market spidey?'

Re: Civil War #7

Pretty Predictable Ending. It's no Infinite Crisis.

but I do have one thing to say about it.

IMPERIUS REX!!!!!!!!!

I don't care about cap or iron man but what happens when Reed finds out what Sue has been up to? What happens in Atlantis stays in Atlantis baby.

Re: Civil War #7

Instead of nit picking, why not look at the broad strokes? Civil War DID change Marvel, which is more that I can say for Infinite Crisis. This is the worst part of being a comic fan, you piss and moan with each issue but you still read it to the end, and you'll still keep reading more related books... and piss and moan some more, then keep reading. You're either gluttons for punishment or you're actually enjoying the reaction the book is giving you, good or bad.

Overall I liked it. It's not perfect. No book is if you want to pick it apart. And the ending was dead on for what Marvel said all along. Civil War will change the face of Marvel for years to come. I wouldn't call that ending predictable, the predictable (and boring) ending was the one everyone was hoping for, with Cap winning. Then we could go back to the same old same old... kind of like DC right now...wow, the return of the multiverse. Nothing like taking a few hundred steps backward...

Re: Civil War #7
By the way... I fall into the second catagory, I love reading things that are bad knowing it's aweful, ranting about how aweful it is, then picking up the next issue...Onslaught anyone?

Re: Civil War #7
Why is everyone hating on DC? DC has done tons of things to shake up the comics scene. batman is nice again. 52 has been rocking readers worlds with massively unpredictable plot twists like the death of Osiris and Ralph Dibny. Justice Society is acknowledging the Existence of the Kingdom Come Universe. Hawkman has been an unrepentant engine of destruction, killing the hell out of anything in his way. Between Identity Crisis and Infinite Crisis no one nescisarily trusts anyone or anything. DC has show political intrigue and global politics can be a good thing in Checkmate. Marvel can't seem to create one "realistic" country. I mean Wakanda is ridiculously unbalanced and unbelivable but Kandaq is no overpowering supercountry out of nowhere. At least DC has a decent editorial staff in, in the same week as Civil WAr 7 we see Armadillo get killed in Punisher 4 and yet the supervillian is on the new texas based superteam? He was a villain 10 seconds ago? why isn't he a Thunderbolt?

Re: Civil War #7

I don't hate any comics. It just gets a little old with the whole Marvel sucks DC rules blah blah blah. Just wanted to point out, if I wanted to waste some time I could find several things wrong in DC or nit pick their stories apart just as easy as the bad rap Marvel always gets. But I will say this. Marvel, for all it's faults, is still the #1 publisher today... tells me they're doing something right.

DC makes mistakes as well, heck the entire Infinite Crisis series was a way of explaining them!!

Bottom line, enjoy comics. They're freaking comics!! If you want "perfection" you're never going to be happy.
