The images from the set of director Jon Favreau's Iron Man film continue to look good. The old tin can armor left fanboys drooling on their keyboards and now it appears Robert Downey Jr. can cut a convincing Tony Stark.
In a still where Tony builds the Iron Man armor with a glowing module in his chest, two things become immediately apparent:
1. Favreau opted not to go with the Freddie Mercury look for Tony.
2. Downey has been working out. Downey was a popular choice to play Tony Stark, even without a resume full action films, because of his long history of alcohol and drug problems.
"He struggles with his lifestyle, he struggles with the drinking," Downey says of Stark. "He faces the same issues a lot of people do."
The question most had was whether the 42-year-old Downey, whose most physical role was as Charlie Chaplin, could convincingly pull off the "superhero" look.
Iron Man is scheduled to be released in almost exactly one year, on May 2nd, 2008. |
