Every Friday, Newsarama slaps on a fresh coat of chapstick, buys a new dress, and sidles up to Marvel's E-i-C for a little "Q & A". On Mondays, Chris of 2 Guys Buying Comics will translate some of the pandering hucksterism interview for you good people. Some text has been edited for brevity's sake. You can reference the actual article at Newsarama here.
Q: Will there be any changes to the [Iron Man] creative team, or is it status quo for the foreseeable future?

JQ: This was going to be Bob Layton on inks, but due to some minor events out of everyone’s control, that didn’t come to pass. However, we’re currently working on an Iron Man: The End project with Bob and Dave Michelinie and I believe that they have another Iron Man project that they’ll be working on after that.

Commentary: While I am beyond thrilled that Bob and Dave will be back on Iron Man together, I'm wondering if they'll be using this pitch from a few years ago.
Q: “I’m still waiting for that Cloak and Dagger pitch that’s going to knock my socks off.” -- Joe Quesada

JQ: Nope, socks still firmly in place.

Translation: Until we get a solid idea for a C&D pitch starring either Spider-Man or Wolverine or Joss Whedon, Cloak and Dagger remain safely tucked away in the Marvel Civil War House of Convenient Plot Devices!

Commentary: Really, Joe, would it kill you to do a 3-issue mini to test the waters? And what's wrong with the original take on the characters? It seems to have engendered enough love to warrant at least a test case.

(By the way, just for reference, C&D were just fine until Marvel turned them into Mutants. Stupid Marvel.)
Q: Omega Flyer: Tommy B has now publicly expressed his disdain of the term and use of 616, so I was wondering what your opinion of it was especially as Tom says "I can tell you for sure that those of us actually working on the books virtually never use the term". So are you pro or anti 616? Whose side are you on? ;)

JQ: Omega Flyer, I never use it, I hate the term pure and simple and agree with Tom’s assessment of it. I can’t remember ever hearing it in the office and only really see it used online for the most part. By the way, Tom has a corrected version of the history of the term that you can find on a new blog posting.

I think the term really came into vogue when the Ultimate Universe came into prominence, but in my world, the language and distinctions are simple, there is the Marvel Universe and the Ultimate Universe.

Translation: In my world, the language and distinctions are simple, there are no shades of gray, no silly moral shadings or room for a relatively innocuous term used as a matter of convenience; therefore, I hate!

Commentary: I'm going to assume, then, that Joe didn't read much Exiles at all?
Q: Spidey616 04-13-2007 03:58 PM: While we're on the Iron Man movie, do you think Favreau will add something new to the character that might be incorporated into the comics like Spidey's organic webbing?

JQ: Anyway, from what I saw a few months ago, there are a few touches and embellishments that they do that I was floored with because they were so obvious and yet in forty plus years, we didn’t think of them for the comics. Perhaps we did, but I certainly don’t recall and I suspect that we’ll eventually add them to the books moving forward after the movie.

Translation: There are totally cool things that I can't believe aren't in the comic! Or maybe they were, but I don't remember!

Commentary: Ladies and gentlemen, your Marvel Editor-In-Chief!
Q: nega-darkwin: You said that you love using the old team names, and I love seeing them. However one major team seems to be absent. I have yet to hear of anything for the Defenders in the state team names. Did I just miss it, or is something special planned?

JQ: Nope, nega-darkwin, you haven’t missed it. We’ve been looking for a place to apply the Defenders name, but haven’t found a concept worthy of it. The problem with The Defenders is that traditionally they’ve always been the second-string Avengers and now that we have two Avengers teams, we need to rethink the concept and rethink what the name means and why someone would use it. I’m sure somewhere down the road we’ll find it, but no luck yet.

Translation: Despite the fact that the Champions and New Warriors are getting their own books, we can't possibly justify another second-stringer team book!

Commentary: I'm gonna just throw this out there, Joe, feel free to take it and run with it: the Defenders are a group of heroes dedicating to defending New York/Earth/the universe against specific occult/alien/villainous/terrorist threats. You're welcome.
Q: Mek 04-16-2007 06:19 PM: If you had a choice, what classic stories would you like to see done for the Marvel Illustrated line and who would the respective artists for them be?

JQ: Mek, I’d love to see David Finch illustrate Moby Dick. How cool would that be!

Commentary: I'm going to go with "Not one 1/100th as cool as Bill Sienkiewicz's Moby Dick".

Someone had better tell Alan Moore that he's been using the term Earth-616 incorrectly. For a whole two decades before the Ultimate line began. Silly Alan!

And since when have the Defenders been a secondary Avengers team? Has Quesada ever read the book? I've got no particular love for the title or team, but to say they're a second-string Avengers team is about as correct as saying Daredevil is a psychic penguin.
