In Civil War, Mark Millar attempted to redeem Dr. Henry Pym, whose reputation has been pretty much shot ever since he smacked around his then-wife Janet Van Dyne-Pym. Hank becomes the only supergenius in the Stark-Richards-Pym triumvirate shown to have any qualms about their cybernetic Norse god clone murdering their friend or to question imprisoning their former comrades in the Negative Zone.
This is all capped off by his being named Time's man of the year. Unfortunately, it seems he'll always be "Hank Pym, wife beater" regardless of the accomplishments he adds to his resume.
However, I recently picked up the first volume of Essential Avengers and within the first three issues of the classic Stan and Jack-style adventures, one thought kept recurring in my head:
"Hank Pym is a saint."
Janet Van Dyne was a pain in the ass who regularly mocked Hank's scientific discoveries, tagged along on adventures despite being more hindrance than help, openly flirted with other men, and regularly commented on how attractive other men were to Hank.

The fact he waited more than a decade to finally snap makes Hank Pym perhaps the most patient man I've ever known. |
