Having conquered the box office, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are bringing in big money on other fronts as well. Co-creator Kevin Eastman sold the original art for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1 on eBay for just over a quarter million dollars.
The auction ended Sunday with a winning bid of $250,099.
Kevin Eastman and his friend Peter Laird created the first TMNT comic back in 1984, printing 3000 copies before they received orders from distributors. At first, it appeared to be a huge mistake with no one expecting to sell nearly as many as they'd printed, but orders exceeded the total and the shortage drove the price for first issues over the $100 mark. |
