Eight stops in fortnight in multiple countries … the War Heroes Tour 2008 has taken comic superstars Mark Millar and Tony Harris on a rollercoaster ride the likes of which only U2 could relate. The most important and best tour stop ever, including the critically acclaimed U2 shows, was the Chandler Arizona stop at Atomic Comics on Wednesday August 20th.

Hero Auction Winner chad Shiply who won not only a tasty Lunch at Kona Grill, but time alone with Mark Millar and Tony Harris.  He also received this kick ass sketch that tony did while we had lunch. Also, he won first in line and the super limited War Heroes Tour of Duty Book! How sweet is that!?!

Atomic Comics hosted the 5th War Heroes Tour stop at its upscale mall superstore, after the Chandler staff pulled together to win an inter-company contest to win hosting rights. Judged by Mark Millar, Tony Harris and Image Comics executives, Atomic Chandler won based upon several creatively awesome displays promoting the Tour and by blowing sales goals through the roof on Millar and Harris merchandise. Store Manager, Alejandro Najar, beamed proudly, “the men and women of Atomic Chandler pwn! Har!”

Tony and Mark greet a young fan.

Atomic Comics sponsored a second “contest” for this Tour stop with an Ebay auction for an exclusive lunch with Millar and Harris prior to the signing event. After scoring a link to the auction from the Atomic Weekly Fallout email newsletter, Chad Shipley, ponied up the winning bid of $162.00 for this once in a lifetime opportunity, and off he went to the Kona Grill for a meal filled with comic talk and future plans for these two comic superstars. Tony generously drew a custom sketch for Chad as we all ate. The meal ran a little long, and the fun came to a tense ending when Alejandro, dressed in military fatigues and sporting a wicked long knife showed up to collect Mark and Tony for the crowd of lined-up fans. Alejandro is still being held in a maximum security facility awaiting transport to Gitmo for his role in the affair.

Creators of War Heroes meet some real war heroes who stopped by to get their copies signed!

Eager fans were entertained in the meantime by the Atomic Chandler crew, sporting costumes from army men to Courtney’s unbelievable Emma Frost. Several real world war heroes arrived to meet Millar and Harris - active duty personnel in our armed services. A representative from CGC was on hand and personally witnessed and authenticated signatures as requested by fans. An awesome time was had by all - the creators were super friendly and talkative with everyone, providing plenty of photo ops. After one of which, Mark was quoted as saying, “Best signing EVER!”

Millar and Harris being mind controlled to smile... yes they do seem very happy, do they not?

Following the Tour Stop itself, Tony, Mark, several fans and Atomic staff went to chill out at a local pool hall with some pints and games. “Some” pints turned to several and soon the stories started flowing, none of which have enough veracity to land in print here.

Mwahahahahahahahahahaha!

Huge props to Mark and Tony for putting up with our demands to eat, drink and be merry while at the Atomic Comics War Heroes Tour Stop! Thanks to Image Comics, Chad and all our customers who make it such a joy for us to sponsor event like this. And last but not least big cheers to all the Atomic staff at all location for the support and creativity with this memorable signing extraordinaire!
