"My first thought was, 'Yeah, they got the car right,'" says Emile Hirsch. "That's one of the best things about the show, so it was always going to be one of the most important parts of the movie." Shooting on Speed Racer, starring Hirsch as Speed, begins next week in Germany, and producers have revealed the look of Speed's car, the Mach 5.
Producer Joel Silver describes the look of Speed Racer as "retro future," but insists that, unlike previous films directed and produced by the Wachowski Brothers, this will be "bright and family-friendly."
Like V for Vendetta and the Matrix films, the movie "has a lot to say about remaining independent and thinking for yourself." In the film, Speed is an independent racer trying to make a name for himself while going up against corporate owned racing teams.
Speed Racer is set to hit theaters on May 9th, 2008 and also stars John Goodman, Susan Sarandon, Christina Ricci, Matthew Fox, and a real--non-computer generated--chimpanzee as Chim Chim. |
