As realistic as a story about an alcoholic war vet with a bad heart who builds a flying suit of armor can possibly be... that's how realistic Jon Favreau's Iron Man will be.
During a junket to promote the upcoming animated film Surf's Up, Jeff Bridges, who plays Tony Stark's mentor Obadiah Stane in next summer's blockbuster, explained how seriously Favreau is treating the film. "Jon [Favreau] is very interested in grounding it in as much reality as he possibly can," said Bridges. "I don't know if you saw the first suit, the primitive kind of suit, it looks like, 'Oh yeah, maybe that could happen.' It’s all plausible."
Favreau is also borrowing a page from Christopher Guest's book and encouraging his actors to improvise dialogue in scene, so they don't sound overly scripted or like comic book cliches.
Paramount is also reportedly working on a teaser trailer with some of the footage shot so far. The two leading candidates for where it will turn up are in the previews before either Marvel's Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer or Paramount's Transformers. |
