Every Friday, Newsarama slaps on a fresh coat of chapstick, buys a new dress, and sidles up to Marvel's E-i-C for a little "Q & A". On Mondays, Chris of 2 Guys Buying Comics will translate some of the pandering hucksterism interview for you good people. Some text has been edited for brevity's sake. You can reference the actual article at Newsarama here.

Q: rccummins 05-02-2007 09:04 AM Do we know the status of the Young Avengers? We can see Hulkling, Wiccan, and Stature standing with other registered heroes in Avengers: The Initiative 31, but we see Hawkeye and Patriot still underground with the New Avengers in Fallen Son 2? Did the Y.A.'s get 'disassembled'?

JQ: All the answers to the questions regarding the status of the Young Avengers, rccummins, will be resolved when Season Two of the series gets underway.

Oh, and before you all ask, no, we're not ready to announce a timetable yet.

Translation: No, we don't know the status of the Young Avengers. Stop asking.

Commentary: Way to blow the momentum on yet another critically acclaimed new property, Marvel. (Not that, at this point, we really need another Avengers family book.)

Q: varo 05-03-2007 08:17 PM As a long-time fellow Mets fan, I have to ask. When is Omega Flight going to be made an ongoing?

JQ: varo, you’re going to have to wait and see. It’s kind of like waiting on Pedro Martinez. After all the surgeries, can he make a comeback?

Commentary: This comparison implies that Omega Flight was a once-in-a-lifetime rare talent that defined excellence for a good 5-6 years and has since been sidelined with the expected toll that age and familiarity takes on natural ability.

So actually, it's nothing at all like waiting on Pedro Martinez.

Q: Liliaeth 05-05-2007 12:39 PM When Spider-Man was first unmasked I was really hoping for stories of people dealing with finding out that Spidey was just a regular guy underneath the mask. Yet aside of PAD's Friendly, most of the Spidey comics seem to be ignoring that part of the storyline. (even though it's the most interesting part of the unmasking) Is there any chance to have more responses from people dealing with Peter being Spider-Man, rather than just having more villains and cops attacking him now?

JQ: Despite the fact that there are three dedicated Spider-Man titles every month, Liliaeth , there are only so many stories you can get to every month - and some of what sees print depends on the particular interests of the writers involved. Nevertheless, we've seen members of Peter's old supporting cast dealing with the revelation in Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man and Sensational Spider-Man, and will continue to do so as time goes on.

Translation: Come on, if we bothered to explore the ramifications of arguably the biggest status quo change in any major comics property in the last 15 years, we wouldn't have been able to do this entirely self-serving "Back in Black" movie tie-in nonsense!

Commentary: Wait... despite the fact that there are 3 books a month there's no room for this in a meaningful way? This only underscores what many if not all of us felt about the unmasking --- it was a cheap stunt likely thrown in to boost Civil War sales.

Q: Slayton 05-07-2007 05:05 PM Hi Joe, I realize you have spoken on this subject recently and I don't mean to beat a dead horse here, but I am confused as to the use or claimed "non-use" of the term 616. You've said that no one in the company uses the term and it is certainly not official, but then your own Official Handbook update that came out this past week used the term repeatedly. Can you explain?

JQ: Yes, Slayton, both Tom [Brevoort] and I have talked about this, you can read it in his blog. The folks that write our handbook have used the term and have actually contributed to perpetuating it. This doesn’t mean I like it and to be honest, I didn’t even know it was in the handbook until Tom mentioned it.

I have to be honest here, I read a lot of our titles, but I don’t read the handbooks.

Translation: Wait, we're printing... handbooks? Reference materials? For the Marvel Universe? That could be used as guides to keeping continuity straight? Hmm... nope, can't see what possible use those could have. Brevoort! More coffee!

Commentary: Way to crap on the handbook authors, Joe. I bet they're totally motivated to get right back to work!

I almost don't want Young Avengers to come back now, because I know that Marvel, as they currently operate, will ruin it.
